if that show pool paid off that big
you had some bridge jumpers dumping a lot of big baloons on the favorite
that didnt hit the board

hey alpine
that story about a big show pool, reminds me of a story
long time ago......in the mid, early 90's rosie and i are at arlinton on a sunday with the wives
(yeah.....must a been a long time ago...to have them with us)
anyway......2nd last feature race of the day
turf race.....right up rosies alley.....horse by the name of star of cozzene
bred royally for the turf....tried to beat him with a horse that looked like he could run
but at the last second...rosie noticed the show pool put up some big numbers on the horse at about the 3rd last flash
he mentioned if star of cozzene doesnt hit the board......will be huge show pool pay-off
well....i jump up go hedge my key horse that i used in the gimmicks....to just hit the board
got only 1 ticket punched.........race goes off
naturally cozzene horse doesnt run.......doesnt hit the board
show pool pay was $94.00+
few days later read in the form......that some bridge jumper bet over 1/4 million dollars on the cozzene horse to show, out in vegas
they fished him out of the colorado river below hoover dam.......lol.....(not really)
i'm sure rosie will remember this story ....also!

Heres the kicker Dave. Did you notice the favorite ran 2nd? and quessed who owned it? Asshole Calabrese!! Classic example if you would of liked that horse(the favorite that is) not only wheel him in the exacta which paided 1400 but put him in all three spots in the tri for a dollar total investment 330 dollars to make 9,158 bucks!
I know its easy to say after the race but here again its all in the gimmicks and if you have a bankroll to play with this is how you get it done.
I also noticed apprentice jockeys ran 1st and 3rd here a Robbie special, yes folks wieght does matter and the winner had some Cryptoclearance in his blood.
Id say maybe the guy that hit the 10 cent super played his house number but 112137 looks like and aweful long house number! Probably some little old lady down there visiting and her kids birthdays were on 11th,2nd,13th and 7th you never know.

Well guys guess who had that favorite (5/2) who ran second. $60.00 to win. Not lyin' when I say that I almost had that exacta. There were three horses in that maiden race who had "trouble" comments in their first and only start, the 4, the 8, and the 11. I like using that kinda horse in exactas 'cause you really didn't get a chance to see what the horse was worth in his only start because of the trouble he encountered adding big value in his next start). But I hardly ever bet $2.00 exactas (you know how we're creatures of habit) so $6.00 exacta boxes woulda cost me an extra $36.00 bucks after my win bet. It was the first race of the day and I decided that I didn't want to sink close to a c note into the first race.

To make matters worse if you twisted my arm and told me that I could only use one of those three horses I woulda picked the 11 'cause I prefer young horses who break from the outside where there is less chance that they will get in trouble with other green horses from the ouitside.

Believe me, I was sick after that race. $1300.00 exacta x 3 woulda been just what the doctor ordered. Hell, I was sick I didn't step down to the $2.00 boxes.

Oh well... Just another horse story.

Michelangelo, That sucks!!! I do play larger exactas but ill at least wheel the horse with everybody for a dollar top and bottom just because,so something like this doesnt happen.
That really stinks and Im sure it took you awhile to shake that one. Maybe the beer helped

well....another bdh story that rosie and i have had over the years
we went to our closest otb last sat. for a qualifying tourney to win a spot in Orleans worlds series of horses
cant tell you how many times rosie ran 2nd(in across the board, doubles, pick 3 and 4 bets)
he probubly will tell you he should of just been putting all his money on bets for place only...
i on the other hand.....was making a few multiple bets on 2 late races in the tourney
get the 1st bet in, in both races,my 2nd bet in each races was a show pool i had going, and naturally got shut out
either show pool bet payout would a been huge(enough to make me the the winner for the tourney that day)
oh well.....like i said just 1 of many a bdh stories!
bdh=broken down horseplayer
good luck on your wagers guys, and "good racing"

I developed a new selection method based on information from the drf,
equibase, and a few other sources of info and then made a software
program to make the selection process more efficient. The second day
I am working with it I am processing races at Golden Gate. I come across
a race where all three reports from this software predict that the outcome
of the race are identical. To this date this has only happened twice.

As I start to watch the odds in this 7 horse race I witness the 4 horses that
are selected are going up in odds dramatically while the odds on the 3 horses
that this says do not even have a prayer drop through the basement floor.
I get money into an account and wager $40 across the board on the horse
but as I do so I notice that this place does not pay over $1000 per wager or
more than 15 to 1 odds. I make the last click to finalize the wager and rush to
TVG where what you see is what you get as the odds on my key horse tops
40 to 1 having started at 6 to 1. The money hits the account and I am feverishly
trying to make my wager on a superfecta going $4 on each way. The race goes
off as I enter my wager and I am shut out by a mater of 1 or 2 seconds. Well of
course the horses finish in the order that they were listed and the superfecta
pays over $11,000 per $2. I miss out on just short of $23,000 minus the affect
my winning wager would have had on the pay off. The second time that this
happened I have the sheet on my desk meaning to come back to it and make
a wager but as my desk is always (well up to that day anyway) full of papers
and projects in process the page gets down a layer or two. I come across it
and think to myself oh no!! Rushing to TVG where I have money waiting to use
just in time to watch the finish line video show me that the four horses that
this picked come in exactly in the order that they were listed by all three reports.
Paid $4,700 for the superfecta. Another $10,500 I missed out on having adjusted
the payoff to include the intended action. Two for two and shut out two for two.
I am batting 1000. It was 5 months from the first one to the second time that
this has occurred and I've been looking and waiting now for 4 months since then
for just one more shot at this.

The only good news to date is that I got paid over $1200 from my win, place and
show wager after the limits came into play and sooner or later this is going to
occur again, just hope that when it does I do screw up yet again somehow.

The winner at that Golden Gate race paid $85.70 to win.

how do you think you'd feel if you had the only winning ticket in gulfstream park 10cent pick 6 yesterday with the number #2 Zaniah,
and get run down in the lane late and get beat out of a pay-off of 221k?
its a gimmick exotic wager that you have to hit and be the only 1 to have the right winning combination!
there was 3 live tickets going into the last race
and 2 of them ran 1-2(win-place)
1 guy happy as hell, the other?.....well.....you figure how you'd feel???????

I had that effin' 2, $24.00 to win and I was pissed. Three seconds yesterday out of about 5 races bet, all at 6-1 or higher. Was holding all win tickets only. I know how I felt. Can't even begin to guess how that guy felt with that #2 leading all the way around, setting a 50 and change half if I remember correctly, then gretting nipped at the wire by the damned favorite if I remember correctly. Tough, tough beat for that guy with that mega ticket. Maybe, just maybe he was the same guy who had the winner. Eh ref?

well.....as my dad use to say.....if ya dont learn at least something everyday,ya had a bad day
also...something about  "your never too old to learn" somebody said at 1 time or the other?
learned something yesterday at the track(my bdh buddy rosie did also)
if your familiar with the place pick 9 bet at your local track maybe you can learn something also?
was at arlington yesterday,4 of us guys pooled our money, spread out with a bunch of horses and played the pick 9
going into the last race we where alive 8 for 8
rosie's best bet of the day was the horse we used(a single),in the 9th race
well....top of the stretch he had some work to do.....didnt look good
but he only hung for a second....kicked it in ....came flying....didnt win but got 2nd by a nose...winner for us 9 of 9
posted the pay offs $501.40 pay off.....hey we couldnt retire on it(sorry guys,i already am)....but we where happy
went to the machine to get our voucher and go to a teller to collect
rosie put the ticket in....and it printed out the amount......$4019.20
lol...he turned around with the dumbfoundest look on his face...and said...."i dont fuckin believe that"
boy...did the 4 of us celebrate....we had a big crowd watching and laughing at and with us
ok.....we found out....our 1 ticket turned in to 8 because 2 of the races where we had 2 horses for that  race they ran 1st,2nd
so that gave us extra tickets.....also in 1 race our 2 horses ran 2nd and dead heated...so gave us even more tickets
so....needless to say...we all went home very happy and celebrated
slept in late this morning....obviously with some cob webs when awoke
just another bdh story for this thread
